Texas Karnevil II - Ridglea Theater - Fort Worth, Tx - 07.15.06
Reviewer - Metal Tiger

Karnevil started off a little slow but as the night progressed the crowd got bigger. Starting off the day was Giant Squid, Southern Steel, Staggercrawl, Sealed In Blood, In God We, Then There Were Three, and Sister Kill Cycle. This was my first time seeing Rex Mundi and I have to say I enjoyed them very much. Next up was one of my favorites When Faith Fails. Those guys really know how to liven up a crowd. They got everyone awake and ready for more metal! It was an awesome set! Next was Shrapnel from Austin who set off second stage with some amazing music and a great stage presence too. I was very impressed with these guys. Splinter was up next and I was totally blown away by their new singer Mike. If you have not seen Splinter since they brought Mike into the family you have to see them. This guy just has so much energy! I was absolutely glued to the stage when they played! Next on second stage was Low Gear and this was also my first time seeing them too. I liked their music very much. Definitely kept my attention. Not to mention they aren't bad to look at either. Next on main stage was Madcastle. Always a great show. Facedown is a Fort Worth based band who was next up on second stage and they, as always, gave the crowd exactly what they were looking for. There has never been a show I have seen with Facedown that I didn't walk away completely satisfied with their stage performance. Next up on main stage was Rikets. Very interesting group. Good solid sound. Next up on second stage was Lord Slugg who performed all the crowds favorites such as "Monkey Sex" and "Cheeseburgers". Discard The Weak (formerly Waja) was up next on main stage. Adding Derek (formerly of Kwik Buddha) was a very good idea for the Waja guys. I think he compliments the band very well. I've always loved Derek's stage presence. Its always the first thing I look at in a band, how well your front man works with the crowd. Stolen Babies was up next. Music was good but the costumes we a bit weird for my taste. They reminded me of a bunch of demonic toys. Grain was next on main stage. As always Grain is never a disappointment. You just got to love these guys and their music. They do just an amazing job and so professional off stage too. Great job! Myplasticfriends was up next, they drove all the way from Longview Texas to perform. Their music is always entertaining. I always love to go to one of their shows. Sixstitch was the headliner for the night. They are from Arizona. Their music was just unbelievable! Insane metal music!! They put on a great show! Texas Karnevil II had a great line up this time. I was very impressed with the mix of different metal bands all coming together. I wish there would have been a better turn out but in my opinion I think with so many festivals going on that may have brought the fan base down. Too many festivals not enough people who want to see them. Music wise though this festival was again a success.
