| Scattered Chaos or Dry Fury?
Review of Club Indigo show on 3-25-04
by Troy aka FreakOfNature
Me being the working stiff that I am, it's not very often that I get out to see a show during the week. 6am
comes around entirely to early for me and unfortunately, my job actually requires that I use what little bit
of a brain I have, So going into work half cocked isn't much of an option. You should feel very special if
I drag my lazy ass out to a weekday show for your band. Not that I'm anything special mind you, It just doesn't
happen very often.
The special occasion this time around was for A Dozen Furies CD Release show @ the best club in Deel Ellum
right now, Club Indigo. The bands that played from opener to closer was: A Faith Called Chaos,
Dryline, Scatter The Ashes, and of course A Dozen Furies (I guess you COULD have a CD Release
party at someone else's show... If you really wanted to).
First up was A Faith Called Chaos. I always feel sorry for the first band on a bill because generally
speaking, they usually get to be the sound guinea pig of sorts and this was definitely the case for AFCC. The
sound was quite jumbled for the first few songs and the Vox were way to loud. After things settled in, these guys
proceeded to kick my ass with their very unique blend of flashy late 70's style music and Hardcore vox. Solo's are
back ladies and gentlemen!
Ever so often, you go to a show for support of a specific band/bands and get drop kicked by a band you knew nothing
about. This was the case with Dryline. From what I gathered asking around, these guys have been on the scene
for a little while now but for whatever reason, I had heard very little about them. These guys are Metalcore to the
bone and are VERY talented musicians. Aaron, the singer creates a very good connection with people watching the show.
That is a very unique trait these days and is one of my pet peeves about allot of bands out there. If you're into bands
like As I Lay Dying, you'll love these guys. I'm a fan and will make sure I'm at there May 8th CD Release show
to pick up my copy!
Scatter The Ashes. There is no doubt in my mind that these are all great musicians. They were technically
flawless but the whole U2/The Cult/Emo thing just didn't work for me. And the singer with his shirt off and his jeans
hanging so low that his ass crack is showing? Ummm... no. Sorry.
I deeply regret not being able to stay for A Dozen Furies entire set. I ended up having to leave a little after
midnight but I still caught enough of there show to say this: Considering the short time this band has been together,
It's my opinion that A Dozen Furies is the most polished band in the area right now. They have one of the most
entertaining shows to watch that I've seen in a loooong time and not just one or two members are into it when they play
live. Each and every one of them are insane. I used to think Jasen Moreno from Plastic Tongue/Crankfish
was hands down the best Metal singer in Dallas. He now has SERIOUS competition from Bucky. Great clean and superb
aggressive vox are what does it for me and he excels at both. Once upon a time, in my old band we had a chance to try
him and his buddy Shaun out but passed on it. We were IDIOTS!!!!!!!!! Please excuse me while I go kill myself.
