| Max Cady - Tonight Alive
by James
Max Cady is another one of those bands that is trying to recapture the fun of 70s and 80s hard rock while still sounding like a modern rock band. Being a huge fan of AC/DC, you would think that I would jump right in and start swimming, but something is keeping me dry. There is absolutely nothing out and out bad about this band or this album that I could name, so I am thinking Max Cady may fall into that gray area of being an acquired taste. I've been through Tonight Alive more than a dozen times and the only thing that really changes is I know more of the words to the songs as I go. I neither like nor dislike it more with each listen. Take from that what you will. I will say this, though; the guitar work is awesome. If you are a fan of the flair and fun of old school hard rock, than you will at least like Max Cady's rhythm section and their songwriting. Catchy, hard-hitting riffs and wailing solos are the order of the day here. The vocals are probably what keep me from throwing my hat in the ring with these guys. They just don't do it for me and that is entirely because of my personal taste in vocalists. They are just there, for me - neither adding nor detracting from the music in the background. At the end of the day, the simple fact is Max Cady is a good band that just isn't my cup of tea.
