Kill The Client - Wage Slave
by James

"It's like a 15 minute seizure" - War Serpent

No fanciful combination of nouns and adjectives could have described Kill The Client's debut EP, Wage Slave, better than the above statement. Calling this an angry album would be the absolute understatement of the century. Of course, when you are dealing with grind, you come to expect anger and aggression. Even for a grind band, though, Kill The Client come across as far more pissed off than most of their contemporaries. Morgan's vocals are downright demonic from start to finish and Chris Andrews gives you barely any time to relax between blasting bursts on the snare. If you've experienced these guys live, though, the ferocity of Wage Slave is exactly what you would expect. I give Kill The Client credit first and foremost for creating a grind album that stays true to the confines of their chosen genre while still managing to distinguish themselves from the rest of the pack. The inclusion of the occasional groove and/or breakdown does wonders to avoid the monotony most grind albums fall victim to. Another thing that keeps me coming back for more is the drums. Every instrument on Wage Slave is played to perfection, to be sure, but I can't help wondering how Chris recorded this album without his arms falling off. He is all over his drum kit the entire time. Sure, lots of drummers work their whole drum kit, but most of them aren't playing at 300 miles an hour. You almost want to slow it down to half speed so you can fully appreciate all the work the guys put into writing these songs. This is easily one of the best debut albums I've heard from anyone.
