Why is it that people feel the need for controversy? Is it
really THAT big of a deal that a fellow human beings opinion
differs from yours? Does it TRULY just ruin your day to know
that Joe Blow doesn't agree with something you feel strongly
about? This will be the topic of discussion today boys and
girls.
Label Signing = Sellout. Ummm... No. What is it with this
elitist attitude that it's so cool to be an underground, unheard
of band? Give me a break. It's great to be in the music industry
because you love it, but it seems kinda goofy to me that you'd
pretend like you don't want a deal. Me personally? My career
path is set, but you're damn Skippy that if a good deal comes
along I'll jump on it. Call me a sellout all you want, but
I'll be doing what I love doing and making good money at the
same time. Jealousy perhaps? Quite possibly. Love the music
because you love the music, not for the sake of it being a
highly underground band or because it's getting massive airplay
for that matter.
The 80's are gone, GET OVER IT! Why is everyone in such a
hurry to bring the 80's back? Have you taken the time to LOOK
at some of the video's from the 80's? Sure, there were great
guitar players back then but most of them over played on a
constant basis. The Spandex and Hair Spray was sCary. Hell,
half the time you couldn't tell the difference between a guy
and a girl! All of the lyrics were about "Sex, Drugs
and Rock & Roll". It was just pure cheese. I respect
the music itself, but every other aspect of the 80's is just
wrong.
To Solo, or NOT to Solo. THAT is the question. You want an
answer? There IS no answer. If you INSIST on having a solo
in every song, you're an idiot. If you INSIST on NOT having
a Solo in every song, you're an idiot. Do what the song calls
for and stop worrying about stroking your ego for chrissakes!
There are plenty of bands out there that I love that play
TONS of Solo's, but they fit the context of the song so it's
cool. On the flip side, some of my FAVORITE local bands have
guitar players that couldn't play a good solo if there life
depended on it, but you know what? They do just fine because
they write songs that don't NEED solos. Judge a song from
start to finish, Not by whether it has a cool solo in it or
not.
I'm done for this installment. More to come!
Allow me to close with this: SUPPORT those that you believe
in. Don't waste your time talking about bands/music/ANYTHING
you dislike. That time is better spent supporting those you
do.
